The Cecil Renaud Educational and Charitable Trust was founded in 1988 by famous Durban philanthropist Dr. Cecil Renaud. He passed away on June 3, 1993, leaving his remaining wealth to the Trust. Soon after the Trust began operations, the trustees established the Overseas Scholarship.
38 scholarships have been given to the most talented young South Africans since 1994. Students who have received the Scholarship in the past have studied in a variety of subjects at universities like the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, and the University of London.
ELIGIBILITY
- Applicants must have completed a major part of their secondary schooling in KwaZulu-Natal, and be under the age of 27 at the time of applying for the scholarship.
- Have a good track record in extracurricular activities and a drive to succeed and uplift South Africa.
- The applicant should have earned Dean’s Commendations and Certificates of Merit or the equivalent, as well as an undergraduate or honours degree(s) cum laude or summa cum laude, or intend to earn one.
- Postgraduate students who have earned or are pursuing an honors degree or a four-year undergraduate degree are eligible for the scholarship.
- Applicants must be a person who will have a significant impact on their field of study, and the world.
- Former students have read for degrees in many different subjects, such as an MA in Applied Theology, an MSc in Mathematics, and an MA in Singing.
