As our Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our business strategy from a legal perspective. Your responsibilities will encompass providing strategic guidance and support to senior management across a wide spectrum of legal matters. From overseeing vendor contracts and managing relationships with key regulators to safeguarding our trademarks and handling all legal affairs, including lawsuits and compliance issues, you’ll be a critical asset in ensuring our success.

Responsibilities

Mitigate legal risks and enhance profitability by advising on regulatory compliance.
Cultivate effective relationships with regulators as the primary liaison.
Fulfill company secretary duties and related aspects.
Strategize legal proceedings in collaboration with external advisors and departments.
Scrutinize contracts and legal documents, offering expert revisions.
Lead negotiations with clients, vendors, and in litigation when required.
Draft, review, and authorize policies, bylaws, and operational legal documents.
Advise executives on legal implications and rights impacting business functionality.

Additional Obligations

Oversee and represent the company in all legal matters.
Ensure updated knowledge of legal documents and operations.
Prepare requisite documents for legal proceedings and filings.
Guide management on regulatory compliance.
Conduct periodic compliance assessments.
Facilitate licensing and statutory compliance filings.
Coordinate with external counsel and vendors.
Provide legal support for trials and court proceedings.
Manage intellectual property and create new entities.
Stay current with Nigerian legislations, including NDPR, NITDA Act, NCC Act, and more.

Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in law, with the option for a Master’s degree or membership in ICSAN or Chartered Institute of Arbitrators for added advantage.
Active Nigerian Bar Association membership in good standing.
6 years of prior experience as a Legal Counsel or on a secondment basis.
Competent in providing legal advice and counsel on diverse legal and policy matters to senior management.
Effective communication and interaction skills with government officials at all levels.
Proficient in MS Office and adept at corporate governance and secretarial duties.
Skilled in negotiation, arbitration, and mediation.
