Position Overview

As a Senior Data Engineer at Axios, you will work closely with a talented team of data engineers, scientists, analysts, and product managers to spearhead data-driven initiatives for our mission-critical products. Your role will be pivotal in analyzing consumer behavior, preferences, and feedback, enabling Axios to tailor its products, services, and marketing strategies with precision.

In this leadership position, you will develop and implement innovative solutions to complex challenges, driving intelligent and nuanced approaches to data engineering. Join us to shape the future of data analytics at Axios.

Key Responsibilities

 As a Senior Data Engineer, you will make an impact in your role through the following responsibilities;

  • Developing data products and features for deep consumer insights into Axios’ audience.
  • Write clean, well-documented, and thoroughly tested code in SQL and Python.
  • Lead hands-on development, executing the team’s roadmap with data engineers, analysts, scientists, and quality engineers.
  • Make technical and architectural decisions to enhance data infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines and warehouses to support data-driven decisions at Axios.
  • Mentor junior team members through pair programming and constructive code reviews.
  • Estimate technical implementation efforts to plan and sequence development tasks efficiently.
  • Provide technical insights, assess feasibility, and communicate constraints to the Product Manager.
  • Share knowledge by presenting at data chapter meetings and demoing to team members and stakeholders.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and collaborate on implementing best practices.
Qualification
  • Proficient in Agile Software Development methodologies
  • Skilled in developing data applications using Python, SQL, Bash, Jinja, Terraform, and more
  • Proficient in designing, building, and managing data pipelines for generating insights
  • Familiarity with functional design and dimensional data modeling
  • Knowledgeable in DBT and semantic data models
  • Experienced with data pipeline development and orchestration using tools like Airflow
  • Practical expertise in columnar data warehouses, particularly Redshift
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and adept at deploying data products effectively
  • Demonstrated capability in delivering high-quality, testable, and accessible code promptly
  • Proficiency in working with cloud providers, especially AWS

Remuneration

Starting salary for this role is in the range of $140,000$190,000
