Who Are We Looking For?

The Communications Assistant will assist the Abuja Country Cluster Delegation and the project and program managers of the IFRC cluster officer in creating effective communication materials and collaborating with the communications teams of the National Societies under the technical direction of the Senior Communications Officer based in Abuja.

Responsibilities
  • To engage them and find stories from National Societies with the aim of highlighting their operational successes and humanitarian needs, you will strengthen the sub-regional network of communications officers.
  • You will acquire content (pictures and stories) from National Societies and post it online or share it with the Africa continent for regional and global profiling.
  • You’ll take part in the regional editorial network of the regional office for Africa.
  • Aid the Cluster office in responding to and directing media inquiries during emergencies.
  • Create a weekly roundup of the most important humanitarian news in the area.
  • As necessary, aid in the communication efforts of the Nigerian Red Cross.
Qualification
  • A graduate degree from a university, or the equivalent, in a relevant field (Journalism, Digital Marketing, International relations, etc).
  • MBA or relevant postgraduate degree (or equivalent)
  • Prior media relations experience
  • knowledge of content creation
  • Prior expertise with social media and digital marketing

Additional Requirements

  • Work experience with RC/RC
  • Work experience with a different international NGO, a humanitarian organization, or a human rights group
  • Superior writing and editing abilities
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Writing and speaking English with ease
