Who we are looking for?

Canonical is seeking a communications manager to handle the dissemination of information about Canonical and its products to its primary target groups, which include software professionals, corporate decision-makers, and technology enthusiasts. This is a unique opportunity to work with a business that is known for being a leader in open-source and cloud native technologies.

In order to manage awareness of Canonical and its variety of products, including Ubuntu, this role will require direct collaboration with the company’s Product Management function, the Partnerships team, and the Sales and Marketing teams.

The communications manager will organize internal and external resources, working with in-house resources and with outside agencies depending on geography, to promote press releases and product updates, support live events, and help the director of communications with corporate news and the company’s reputation.

Responsibilities

As a Communications Manager you will:

  • Prepare and conduct communication plans for new partnership announcements, product announcements, etc.
  • Keep track of public impression of Canonical and its products, and create efforts to increase positive perception among the right audiences..
  • Control interactions with the media both personally and through other agents.
  • Produce and present reports on communications activities, as well as track and manage PR budget.
  • Element of direct communication in both live and virtual events.
  • Together with the marketing and social media divisions, develop campaigns that are integrated.
  • Facilitate the Web and Product teams in developing supplementary content for news and announcements.
  • Support the corporate communications objectives of the Director of Communications.
Qualification
  • Experience of managing technology communications (agency or in-house)
  • Existing media relations in their geography
  • A track history of delivering innovative and successful communications campaigns in the technology space.
  • Understanding cloud, SaaS, and open source technologies is helpful
  • Excellent communication abilities in English, including written, visual, and presenting
  • Advantages include having additional language skills and knowledge of international communications.

  • Commitment to developing a strong team spirit, objectivity, and openness to the opinions of others
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, and/or the evidence of professional competencies and qualifications
  • Track record of delivering strong results and innovation in the technology area or SAAS.
