EPFLglobaLeaders Doctoral Fellowship

EPFLglobaLeaders is a new doctoral fellowship program that provides financing for early-career academics to take the lead in the transition to sustainable society. A diverse training program will be beneficial to 48 doctorate fellows. The partnership with the non-academic sector is a feature of EPFLglobaLeaders. The curriculum comprises a three to twelve-month stay in a non-academic field. Also, it is strongly advised that the non-academic partner supervise the PhD thesis together, whether formally or informally.

What Are The Benefits Of The EPFLglobaLeaders Fellowship?

The Doctoral candidate at EPFL receives a monthly salary contribution of EUR 1,935 as part of the EPFLglobaLeaders fellowship. The thesis supervisor must supplement this EU contribution and pay for any related expenditures. Co-funding cannot originate from other H2020 funding sources (research costs, equipment, travel expenses, conferences, etc.). What Fields Are Available In The EPFLglobaLeaders Doctoral Fellowship?

Fellowships through EPFLglobaLeaders are available in all fields that fall under the purview of EPFL’s research. Applicants to any of the EPFL’s 22 PhD programs are eligible for the program.

Eligibility:

Here are the criteria for the EPFLglobaLeaders program :

  • Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) before they sign their employment contract.
  • They can be from any nationality.
  • Additionally, candidates must be Early Stage Researchers (ESR), have no more than four years of full-time research under their belts by the time they sign their employment contract, and have not yet received a doctoral degree.
  • The MSCA transnational mobility requirements must be met, and applicants must not have spent more than 12 months of the three years prior to the call deadline living or engaging in their primary activity (job, study, etc.) in Switzerland. In order to ensure equitable opportunity for applicants whose scientific careers were stopped, exceptions to these restrictions are permissible. As a result, the time spent going through the process of applying for refugee status under the Geneva Convention, performing national service, going on maternity leave, and/or taking short trips like vacations are not factored in.

How to apply for the EPFLglobaLeaders Program:

The application process is divided into two stages:

  • Stage 1: an application is submitted by the applicant to the EPFL Doctoral School (EDOC) via the online application form. Applicants to the EPFLglobaLeaders programme must provide some specific information in addition to the usual information requested by EDOC.
  • Stage 2: an application submitted by the thesis supervisor following the supervisor matching stage.
