Who Are We Looking For?
The database administrator is in charge of the functionality, reliability, and security of databases. He or she will also help in the development and design of MainOne’s database and storage systems, as well as in troubleshooting any issues for users. In addition to providing Main One with cutting-edge, dependable, and high-quality database solutions, he or she will evaluate relevant trends and provide recommendations for changes, improvements, or eliminations to the company’s current environment.
Qualifications, Skills & Competencies
- Minimum BSc. Degree in Computer Science or in a related Discipline
- Minimum of 5 years in Database Administration
- Certification in Oracle and SQL Databases
- Certifications in VMware, EMC and/or other related certifications
- Virtualization/Storage/Back up Technologies is an added advantage
Other Competencies Required:
- Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills (at C Level)
- Experience with Microsoft public, hybrid and private cloud will be an added advantage
- Must have strong Windows/Linux/Unix skills.
- Strong storage administration and design is a plus.
- Professionalism and Integrity at the highest levels, especially when handling extremely confidential information
Responsibilities
- Design and implement data persistence solutions using the appropriate database.
- Carry-out capacity planning for databases, storage, and backup, as well as the implementation of best practice guidelines and regulations related to databases
- Ownership of operational stability of business-critical database instances.
- Day-to-day proactive monitoring, including monitoring error logs, database and log space, user activity, and resource utilization.
- SQL and DB performance tuning, reporting and forecasting.
- Creating and improving backup policies and procedures.
- Creating of automation tools for managing relational databases (auditing, account management, backup/restore, discovery, schema deployment)
- Working with infrastructure owners to test and verify integrity of data archives.
- Storage management, including storage design, configurations, implementation, additions and consolidations.
- Implementing and planning for storage capacity.
- Monitoring performance, troubleshooting proactive support, and problem-solving as directed by the manager.
- Managing and supporting the SAN Environment
- Operation and support of data enterprise backup systems
- Scheduling of backup jobs based on schedules and processes that have been documented.
- Updating backup standards and procedures with improved recommendations.
