Salary: $3,500 per month (with excellent benefits)
Position Overview
Covering Climate Now is seeking a communications manager to work with the CCNow editorial team to produce social media content (editorial and marketing) and other communications materials to engage and help journalists who want to more fully participate in climate reporting.
Ideal candidates will excel at working with a remote team, utilizing email, Slack, and Zoom to communicate on a daily basis. They will collaborate with colleagues, offer ideas, and help shape our engagement projects to serve and inform our journalistic audience effectively. Through social media posting, video production, and outreach, the communications manager will help CCNow amplify exemplary climate reporting; alert journalists to CCNow events, programs, and trainings; and help to create a community of practice around an all-of-newsroom approach to climate coverage.
Key Duties
- Work with the audience editor to produce content, including but not limited to social posts and videos about news stories, best practices, live events, and more.
- Facilitate community engagement and collaborations/partnerships with audience members and newsroom partners through social platforms.
- Help communicate CCNow’s impact and amplify its work.
- Reach new audiences and generate conversation about improving climate coverage in newsrooms across media, around the world.
- Write, edit, and fact check copy as required.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
- Interest and experience in social media (especially LinkedIn, Instagram, Bluesky, and TikTok) content production, creator culture, and new trends in social media communication and online journalism.
- Graphic design and video shooting and editing skills.
- Familiarity with social analytics.
- Strong news judgment. (Communications or Journalism degree a plus.)
- Strong writing skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in multiple departments and across multiple time zones.
- Strong interest in local and regional news, especially as it relates to climate change.
- Ability to prioritize effectively.
- Ability to work simultaneously on short- and long-term projects.
Additional Requirements
- Familiarity with digital content creation and scheduling tools (especially Canva, Buffer, Adobe Premiere Pro, and other audio/video editing software).
- Proven ability to contribute to a positive, diverse, creative, high impact culture.
- Fluency in other languages, particularly Spanish, is desirable.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Required to have internet access and a personal computer.
- Must be able to work remotely from a quiet and secure place.
- Frequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes and simple grasping.
