We are searching for a finance director to be in charge of managing our finances, accounting, tax, audit, Treasury, accounts payable, invoicing, reporting, budgeting, policies, and controls. The ideal candidate will have previous experience managing a finance team in a multi-currency, fast expanding firm, ideally with expertise in Africa.

Responsibilities

Lead and inspire a top-notch financial staff that has a thorough understanding of our business, is in charge of our reporting, and is essential to advancing strategy and operations.
Create and maintain internal control standards, policies, and procedures for accounting, taxation, auditing, the treasury, accounts payable, billing, reporting, and budgeting.
Ensure adherence to pertinent national laws and industry norms
Control the monthly closing and accounts payable for a number of businesses that operate in different currencies.
Create and provide financial reports, risk analyses, and financial models to a range of audiences (e.g., both All Hands calls and potential investors).
Collaborate closely on pricing and modeling with the Commercial team.
Work closely with the CEO to create and revise company values, manage the cap-table, support M&A due diligence, and support upcoming fundraising initiatives.
Establish, monitor, and enforce policies and processes that direct financial decisions across the entire organization.
Support the management, especially with regard to business and financial matters.
Develop and implement plans for the group’s exchange exposure and cash flow management.

Qualification

5 years minimum of experience as a director or controller of a fast-growing startup, preferably in the fintech industry
1-2 years of experience or training in a financial modeling environment at an international investment bank, consulting firm, or accounting firm.
This position requires knowledge of and expertise in our main markets, such as Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, and Uganda.
Professional certification in accounting or finance
Have an understanding of managing foreign operating entities (ideally regulated entities), monitoring significant quantities of transactions in several currencies, and managing a team.

Additional Requirements

Excellent written and verbal English communication abilities
Strong time-management and organizational skills
knowledge in working with a variety of stakeholders (C-suite, Shareholders, Investors, Regulators, etc.)
An advantage would be prior knowledge of distributed, remote teams.
